Ten Winners Announced at Madison Awards Ceremony

MADISON, Wis. — August 16, 2016 — Ten winners have been announced from the thirty-five finalists and more than 180 nominees for the 2016 Wisconsin Innovation Awards. At an awards ceremony emceed by Jeanan Yasiri Moe and keynoted by former Onion CEO Steve Hannah, winners were named in ten categories. Winners were determined by a panel of 17 industry experts from around Wisconsin, in multiple rounds of judging. Winners spanned all parts of Wisconsin, represented large, medium and small companies, startups, established businesses, and nearly all industries.

The Wisconsin Innovation Awards Ceremony is presented by American Family Insurance and Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, and supported by Neider & Boucher, Exact Sciences, Baird, First Business Bank, Amplified Media, JP Cullen, Props Unlimited, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, JAMF, Force for Positive Change, and Hardin Design & Development.

2016 Wisconsin Innovation Awards Winners:

ActiveEDU, Oshkosh
ActiveEDU is a web based platform that provides elementary school teachers with access to thousands of exercise videos that are also aligned with Common Core Standard and USDA Nutritional content. This means that teachers can get their students physically active, while also reinforcing important educational topics such as Math, Literacy, and Nutrition. The synergy provided allows teachers to find more time in their busy day to fit physical activity for children.

FloraSeq LLC (FS-0809), Waukesha
The FloraSeq FS-0809 microbiota capsules are a revolutionary approach to treating C. diff infections, a particularly menacing cause of hospital acquired infections. The treatment, using human-derived healthy bacteria to outcompete pathogenic bacteria, will be one of the first products to use “bugs” as drugs.

Lynx Biosciences, LLC (MicroC3), Madison
Lynx Bioscience’s (LynxBio’s) product, MicroC3™, is an assay that rapidly analyzes the therapeutic response of blood cancer patients’ tumor cells with their own non-tumor cells. Compared to other existing technology, this allows for more patients to be tested in a faster, less painful way.

Montage (Video and Voice Interviewing), Delafield
Montage provides on-demand video interviewing allowing recruiters to increase engagement, improve candidate experience, and gain a more complete picture of job candidates.

NanoAffix Science LLC, Whitefish Bay
NanoAffix has developed a graphene-based sensing platform for real-time, low-cost detection of various contaminants in water, such as heavy metals, bacteria, nitrates and phosphates. The technology can also have food & beverage and biomedical applications.

HeathIT – Software
Redox, Madison
Redox is the modern application programing interface (API) for healthcare. Healthcare efficiency is impossible without the ability to access data, and Redox uses technology to solve the issue.

Business to Consumer
Snotco, LLC (‘SnotTape™), Oshkosh
Snotco is the only company in the world to lay down a polyurethane gel in lanes on paper to create a perfect paint barrier on just about any surface. The ‘SnotTape product allows consumers to paint a straight line and prevent paint from bleeding through to the masked surface.

Square Harvest Inc, Madison
Square Harvest has created an online web-store and smartphone app that brings together over 90 local farms allowing customers to shop for local foods at the tap of a finger on a smartphone. The system allows farmer’s and vendors to instantaneously update inventory of what is available and home-deliver all orders within a 45-minute window using openly available mapping technologies.

Understory, Madison
Understory is a weather data analytics company that builds, deploys, and harvests data to provide insurers and policyholders empirical ground-truth weather data using ground-based weather stations with technologically advanced sensors.

People’s Choice
POLCO, Madison
POLCO is a crowdsourcing platform that connects citizens with their local governments on each public policy issue and poll. POLCO does advanced policy polling, commentary, authentication and civic analytics.
